Callerhues received 4.7mm of rain yesterday (April 12) spread throughout the day, with additional light rain today (0.4mm), meaning the rock has had zero consecutive dry days. Combined with nearly 50mm over the last 28 days and persistent high humidity, the sandstone will be saturated internally despite its exposed, SW-facing position — climbing today risks both hold breakage and permanent crag damage.

Based on weather conditions only — does not cover bird nesting restrictions or other access issues.

Site Details

A remote Fell Sandstone crag sitting in splendid isolation on open moorland above the Wanny valley, approximately 5km south-west of Bellingham. At 323m on an exposed hilltop, it catches all available sun and breeze, aiding drying despite the porous sandstone — allow at least 2 dry days after rain. The 66 routes blur the line between trad and highball bouldering: routes rarely exceed 10m but pack sustained quality, with grades running Severe to E5 (Font F4–F8a). Bold, committing character suits confident climbers. Approach via B6320 into Bellingham, then Blakelaw farm road; follow the Pennine Way north approximately 40 minutes with boggy ground. Permission from Blakelaw Farm required; no dogs.
