Gabbro at Porth Ysgo has had roughly 24 hours of drying since the last trace precipitation (0.1mm late on April 12th) and over a day since the more significant 0.7mm on April 12th, with moderate winds aiding surface drying. However, high ambient humidity (~80%) and a very wet recent period mean sea spray and residual dampness on lower boulders is possible — a visual check on arrival is warranted before committing.

Based on weather conditions only — does not cover bird nesting restrictions or other access issues.

Site Details

The most popular gabbro bouldering area on the Lleyn Peninsula coast — a remote, beautiful beach setting. The gabbro rock is extremely rough and textured, providing superb friction (bring tape). Semi-tidal: some boulders only accessible at low tide. Landings are generally poor and require multiple pads. Around 42 problems across the grades.

Condition Notes

Non-porous gabbro dries very quickly — can often be climbed shortly after rain. Exceptionally rough texture provides good friction even in marginal conditions but is brutal on skin. Semi-tidal: check tide times as some boulders are only accessible at low tide.
