Crags

Despite one dry day since the last rain (2.1mm on Aug 25), Corby's Crag has experienced a very wet recent period — 16.4mm on Aug 19, 6.0mm on Aug 20, and further showers since — totalling 45.1mm over 28 days. The sheltered, below-road-level position, high humidity (90% today, 81% average over the past week), and the crag's known tendency to channel runoff mean internal moisture is very likely still present, and a major wet spell is forecast from tomorrow.

Ravens Crag has had a very unsettled recent period with 8.1mm on Aug 19, 4.0mm on Aug 20, and further light precipitation on Aug 22 and Aug 25, leaving only one fully dry day before today's high humidity; the sheltered, slow-drying nature of this venue means internal moisture is likely still present despite the surface potentially appearing dry. With heavy rain forecast from tomorrow (8.7mm + 15.1mm), conditions will deteriorate sharply and the coming week looks very poor.

Back Bowden Doors has had only one full dry day since 10mm of rain on August 19th, followed by further showers on the 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 25th, and the sheltered valley position with high humidity (89% today, near-saturation overnight) has severely limited drying. With heavy rain forecast from tomorrow (9.7mm, then 15.6mm), conditions are about to deteriorate significantly and the rock cannot be considered reliably dry today.

Queens Crag has had only one full dry day since 1.9mm of rain on August 25th, following a very wet period that delivered nearly 58mm over the last 28 days — and 25mm of heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow. With the NW aspect, high altitude, high humidity (82% average over the last week), and the fine-grained sandstone's tenacious moisture retention, there has been insufficient drying time for confident climbing today, and the outlook for the coming week is extremely poor.

Ravensheugh received 9.2mm on Aug 19 and 4.7mm on Aug 20, followed by a further 2.2mm on Aug 25, and has had only one full dry day since; with its NW aspect at 400m, high ambient humidity (~81% average over the last week), and limited direct sun, the rock is unlikely to be reliably dry internally. A major rain event (29.8mm) is forecast for tomorrow, making any window today marginal at best and the coming days clearly unsuitable.

Although today is mostly dry, the rock has had only one full dry day since 3.1mm of rain on August 25th, preceded by a wet spell (9.5mm on the 19th, 2.6mm on the 20th, and further rain on the 16th–18th). With high humidity averaging 82% over the past week and heavy rain forecast from tomorrow (22.6mm), conditions are marginal today and will deteriorate sharply; we recommend not climbing.
