confidence

Recent repeated rain events (3.5mm on April 11, 0.4mm on April 12, 0.3mm today) have kept the rock in a cycle of rewetting with insufficient drying windows between showers. Despite the exposed position and moderate wind, the cumulative moisture from a wet spring pattern and today's light precipitation mean the rock is very likely still holding internal moisture.

Based on weather conditions only — does not cover bird nesting restrictions or other access issues.

Site Details

An often-overlooked west-facing sandstone bouldering venue near Chillingham, with excellent views over the Cheviots. The grippy Fell Sandstone and exposed hilltop position give reasonable drying in a dry spell. Multiple sectors spread across the hillside offer a range of grades. A peaceful alternative to the busier coastal venues. Park at the Forestry Commission car park above Hepburn Farm (NE66 4EG) and follow the track past the gate.
